William Boyd

The Times & Sunday Times Scotland Event

I’ll be honest with you. I haven’t read any of William Boyd’s work, and I certainly won’t having been to this event. I understand that authors are self-centred but it took him 5 minutes to answer each question, circling round and round the subject as if he just wanted to keep blathering on instead of getting to the point. Also, Boyd talks about ‘writing London’ and how he wants to represent it, but then he has created his own slang for his novel. So he isn’t writing London. By the end I was confused and bored; I understand that a writer has the opportunity to bend the truth and create worlds, but to revel in deception of the reader is a little cruel.
