Frank Skinner
Edinburgh International Book Festival/ The List Event
“If I may speak intellectually about granny porn…” Skinner quips, in an event where the TV personality plays the comedian more than author, providing the Book Festival with a taste of the Fringe. Judging from the gales of laughter, everybody in the audience is delighted. The extracts he reads from his recent book, 'On The Road', focus on a rather explicit hotel room encounter between Skinner, a young lady, and a banana (I'm sure you can guess the rest), and reveal a talent for refreshingly honest comic writing, even if obscenity is still the crux of the joke. Moving seamlessly between dirty gags, personal confession, and even a song on the banjolele, this professional entertainer doesn't disappoint.
