Helen Keen: The Primitive Methodist Guide to Arctic Survival
Heresy Comedy
Helen Keen transforms the Wee Room into a winter grotto, complete with frozen wasteland diorama and electric blue mood-lighting. Together, we travel to the Arctic in search of her ancestor, a radically religious whaler from Hull, and other pioneering men of Victorian science, lulled by the far North's lure and frosty lustre. Her routine is entertaining and eclectic; she starts with a puppet show, riffs some Dickens and ends with T.S. Eliot. Her survival tips probably won't save you from a chilly death but if anything would keep you going when all else is lost, it's the hope engendered by laughter. There's enough of this here to break the ice, so to speak, and make this show well worth catching.
