Play on Words
Three's Company
I am naturally wary of any show requiring audience participation and so was pleasantly surprised when after 5 minutes of provoked hand-clapping, 'Play on Words' took off to a great response. With a script sizzling with intellectual puns and wonderfully witty jokes, the show raced through its slot. Meriel Rosenkranz as Jen was so convincing I wholly fell for her 'noisy late-comer' entrance and, in what can often be the downfall of comedy, the shift in tempo from funny to serious was remarkably well handled. With a strong sense of meta-theatre including price tags on props and a talking techie, this company are absolutely aware of what they're doing and are all the better for it.
