Up The Arts Free Comedy Lock-in

Up The Arts Comedy/PBH’s Free Fringe

It was an oddly subdued crowd for a Friday night at Wetherspoons. Compère Paul Ricketts seemed a little fazed when he had to start telling jokes to get the audience going, and he was largely unsuccessful. Sion James, John Cooper and James Christopher failed to bring forth much more than a giggle, although Cooper’s supermarket hide and seek idea was creative and entertaining. Shelley Cooper deserved more response with some genuinely felt and funny political material, but Harriet Bowden’s ten minutes were easily the most enjoyable ones, comprising deliciously scandalous one-liners and a character that was posh, giggly and twisted all at once. Ironically, she was the only one not plugging a show. Overall, a slow start to Friday night.
