3 to see: Journalists
ThreeWeeks recommends three journalists from this year's Fringe
#1 Gavin Esler (pictured): If you’re anything like me (and I bet some of you are, no matter how much you protest), you think of Gavin Esler as a news guy off the telly. But these days he’s also a novelist, and is in Edinburgh to talk about ‘Power Play’, a follow up to ‘A Scandalous Man’, both political thrillers in which he uses his experience as a political journalist apparently to great effect.
Gavin Esler, Edinburgh International Book Festival, Charlotte Square Gardens, 17 Aug, 1.30pm (2.30pm), £9.00 (£7.00), bfpp10.

#2 Stephen Grey: Journalist Stephen Grey was with the British Army at the siege of Musa Quala, and appears at the Festival to discuss the reasons behind the war in Afghanistan and its effect on those involved. He’s joined by aid worker Peter Marsden, who will talk about what can be done to bring an end to the continuing conflict.
Stephen Grey & Peter Marsden, Edinburgh International Book Festival, Charlotte Square Gardens, 15 Aug, 12.30pm (1.30pm), £9.00 (£7.00), bfpp2.

#3 David Aaronovitch: Well known journalist David Aaronovitch is in town to discuss and debunk conspiracy theories. I am a bit interested by this sort of stuff at the moment, because I saw a TV programme about the alleged conspiracy theories surrounding the London bombings, and it was a bit nutty. And there was one really obvious fact that made the theorists’ claims seem ridiculous, and no-one mentioned it, not even the obviously sceptical programme makers. Anyway, I’d be interested in what Aaronovitch has to say on the matter.
