3 to see: Authors

ThreeWeeks recommends three authors from this year's Fringe

#1 Caroline Moorhead (pictured): Caroline Moorhead is the author of a biography of Lucie de la Tour du Pin, who is described by the Book Festival as the “Pepys of her generation”, and it sounds as though she lived through some pretty interesting times; her diaries describe the court of Louis XVI, cover events such as the French Revolution and Napoleon’s rise to power, and see her travelling from France to America, and then back again. I’m sure you’ll agree, a really interesting sounding woman, so I can’t help thinking this will be a very interesting talk about a very interesting book. What a whole lot of interesting.

#2 Ma Jian: It’s twenty years since the Tiananmen Square massacre took place, so it’s been quite topical of late. Ma Jian, exiled from his native China, has written a book based on the incident, and events that occured in the country in the decade following it. ‘Beijing Coma’, which was shortlisted for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize, focuses on the life and experiences of one protester as he recovers from his injuries.

#3 Neil Gaiman: Everyone knows who Neil Gaiman is, don’t they? Well, if they don’t, they should. The world-renowned author, best (though not exclusively) known for his graphic novels, makes a couple of appearances at this year’s festival, so you have more than one chance to catch him.
