Ups And Downs At the Fringe

Guest Ramblings: Stephen K Amos.

It’s that Edinburgh time again when the cobbled streets are filled with people going up or downhill and rarely in the same direction. I had such high hopes for great weather but alas, the four-seasons-in-a-day syndrome has hit with a vengeance.

However, the crowds have been coming out in force and the word on the street is that numbers for the Fringe are up by 15%. Taking into account the ticketing nightmare, things have actually managed to stabilise. Though my gig was oversold the other night and we had 8 people standing, 8 people who had to be rescheduled and a furiously hot room! Thank god for the cold outside breeze.

So far this Festival, I have managed to bond with Roy Walker, a bit of a legend, and the Hamiltons, eccentric as ever. Meanwhile, The Soweto Gospel Choir and the actress Jill Gascoine added a touch of glamour and joy to my weekend chat show.

We have added 2 extra dates to the run of my regular show at the Pleasance Grand, which is very exciting and I am simply having a laugh. For some reason, when I tell tourists that I am the last King of Scotland, they believe me! And to those people who are still unsure, I am not Reginald D Hunter. Flattered as I am, I am not. Have a great wet Fringe, take a punt and see as much stuff as you can.
