QQ: Gill Smith
Comedian and OCD sufferer Gill Smith answers the ThreeWeeks Quick Quiz
1. What is your show about?
My show is called 'OCD: My Family and Other Anals', and that's really what it's about. My own OCD, the obsessions of my family, and a few other things inspired by the anal retentives in my life.
2. Why should we come and see it?
It's funny, and if you've ever got obsessed about anything that seems trivial to those around you, you'll start to feel sane by comparison.
3. If your show was an Olympic sport, what would it be?
Synchronised Swimming. No one knows quite why anyone does it, or why that perfect angle matters, but hey, it's harmless fun for those involved.
4. What are you most looking forward to about this year's Fringe?
It's my first solo show, and I'm an anally retentive control freak, so I spend 3 weeks not just trying to be as perfectionist as possible, but being allowed to revel in it.
5. What are you least looking forward to about this year's Fringe?
Staying on top of work, and even worse my inbox when I get home after it. Did I mention being a control freak?
6. What advice would you have for someone trying to navigate the Fringe?
Look at the second entry on p83 of the Fringe Guide. No, actually, go and get one of the daily guides, have fun, make it up as you go along, and if you've supposedly missed this year's big thing, who cares? (Unless that's me, obviously.) So long as you've had some good laughs, some good beers, and made some good (or hazy) memories.
7. What advice would you have for someone trying to survive the Fringe?
Irn Bru. Or, for a non-caffeine kick, berocca. Or for a totally abnormal fringe, a healthy diet, combined with drinking your weekly recommended alcohol allowance across each week, not each day.
8. Describe your show in three words.
Funny foible fixation.
